Thor Industries History

Some THOR Mandalay Coach Manuals PDF are above the page.

Thor Industries, Inc. was founded on August 29, 1980, when Wade Thompson and Peter Bush purchased Airstream. The name "Thor" combines the first two letters of the name of each entrepreneur. Airstrim did not work well during the economic recession of the late 1970s. Focusing on improving quality while reducing costs, Airstream returned to profitability in the first year with the new Thor management.

In 1982, Thor acquired the Canadian company General Coach, which produces tourist trailers and motorhomes. Part of this acquisition was Thor America, which produces trailers Citation and Chateau and fifth wheels.

In 1984, Thor became a public company and was registered on the New York Stock Exchange in 1986. In the same year, Forbes Thor magazine ranked sixth among the "200 best small companies in America."

In 1991, Thor acquired the Dutch brand of fifth-wheel clutches and conventional tourist trailers. The company Four Winds International, the manufacturer of motorhomes of class A and C, was acquired in 1992. Komfort, the manufacturer of fifth wheels and conventional tractors, and Skamper, the manufacturer of collapsible trailers, became members of the Thor family in 1995.

Thor California was founded in 1996, and the brands Tahoe and Wanderer for trailers and fifth wheels. These products immediately became a hit among RV and the fastest growing brands on the market.

With the acquisition of Keystone RV in 2001 by Damon RV in 2003 and RR CrossRoad in 2004, Thor Industries became the largest manufacturer of RVs.

In September 2010, the subsidiaries Thor Industries Damon Motor Coach and Four Winds International joined together to create Thor Motor Coach. THOR Motor Coach is a leading manufacturer of retail cars in North America. Thor Motor Coach produces several brands of diesel sliders, Class A, Class B Plus, Class C motorhomes, which are distributed in Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, India, Japan, Canada and the United States.

Thor announced the acquisition of Heartland Recreational Vehicles, LLC, a private RV company located in Elkhart, Indiana, for $ 100 million in cash and 4,300,000 common shares of Thor Industries, Inc., subject to correction on September 17, 2010. I would like to see the first big purchase of Thor from 2005 and just two weeks after his 30th anniversary, according to rumors, lasted several days.

In May 2013 Thor sold his SJC Industries ambulance to specialized Allied vehicles, including McCoy Miller and Marque. In August 2013, Thor announced the sale of its bus business ASV. By that time, Thor was the largest producer, which was acquired by El Dorado Motor Corp., National Coach, Champion Bus, Hearthland, Mandalay Coach and Goshen Coach from 1988 to 2012.

In July 2016 Thor acquired Jayco, Inc. for 576 million dollars.

Like some other companies in the industry, Thor offers incentives for employees based on performance, with a premium reduction due to warranty work. Thor encourages employees to actively participate in community programs, and Thor's leaders are members of many civil society organizations.
