Karosa Bus History

Some KAROSA Bus Manuals PDF are above the page.

In 1948 the enterprise of one of the richest families of the Czech Republic, Sodomka, was nationalized, which for many years specialized in producing light passenger vehicles. The company changed its name to "Karosa" and fully focused on the production of buses and components to them. In just one year, the company managed to become a real monopolist in the Czechoslovak automobile market, ahead of the production of buses, including the company "Skoda".

In the late 1950s, the 706RTO model was launched, which won many awards at various international exhibitions. Later there were long-distance and articulated versions, but they remained prototypes.

In 1966, it was replaced by the Š-series (the Škoda company was the manufacturer of the car's engine, the 700 series was launched in 1981. Next - the 730 series, which included city cars В731 and В732, suburban - С734 and С735, and also long distance - LC736. The next few years the company produced 3,400 buses, the 730 series was replaced by the more advanced 740 series, which included extended B741 and C744 buses for urban and suburban transport.

In the years of the socialist regime in Czechoslovakia, Karosa brand continuously developed new models of its products, and also increased its presence in the automobile markets of neighboring countries. However, in 1989, after the privatization of the firm, a serious recession began. The company's products began to yield to their competitors, both in technical and production plans.

And in 1992, a controlling stake in Karosa was transferred to the French concern Renault, which tried to get the Czech firm out of the crisis by completely renewing the production capacity of the brand. However, these attempts failed, and in 1999 the company was bought by the holding company Irisbus, which later became one of the key assets of the IVECO concern in Eastern Europe. And in 2007, the holding and all its divisions, including Karosa, were renamed into IVECO Czechia, after which all products were produced under this brand.
