MAN Bus History

Some MAN Bus Manuals PDF are above the page.

MAN is the world-famous manufacturer of trucks, the German corporation MAN, produces an equally impressive range of all kinds of buses. MAN at its Salzgitter plant collects a whole range of urban, intercity and tourist buses, as well as an even larger series of chassis, where specialized firms install various bodies of their own making.

Ale Series

The main novelty in the MAN program is a small low-profile 3-door city bus Ale with a gross mass of 9.5 tons. Its development was carried out since 1997 together with the Italian body company Autodromo. In the rear overhang of the bus is a 4-cylinder diesel in 175 hp. and an automatic 3-speed transmission. Its overall length is 7.5 m, its width is only 2200 mm, the maximum capacity is 60 passengers (seats for seats - 10-17). The features of the new bus include a pneumatic suspension with electronic control (front - independent), disc brakes of all wheels, installation of ABS and ASR, steerable wheels with a rotation angle of 52 °, glued to the steel frame aluminum and plastic cladding panels.

Lion's City Series

In 2000, this program included a 3-axle city bus Lion's City with a total capacity of 120 passengers. In addition, MAN offers several types of 2- and 3-axle chassis (models from 8.153HOCL to 24.420HOCL) for the installation of bodies of specialized firms on them. Series Lion's Comfort In recent years, a simplified tourist-long distance version of the RN353 Lion's Comfort with engines of only 350 hp, designed for the transportation of 49-55 people, was created. On the other hand, the "lion's series" was replenished with tourist options of special comfort - 2-axle Lion's Star Spezial and 3-axle Lion's Top Coach (6x2).

Lion's Star Series

Produced from the beginning of the 90's tourist series Lion's Star with engines with a capacity of 400 and 420 hp. Replenished with the most powerful performance with a 12.8-liter D2876 engine with 460 horsepower. and a torque of 2100 Nm in the mode of 1000-1300 rpm.

Midibus series

The second novelty is the mid-sized city low-profile Midibus with a total mass of 22.5 tons in variants NM223 and NM283, with engines of 220 and 280 liters. from. respectively. It is available in three versions, ranging from 8.5 to 10.5 meters and a total width of 2350 mm. The total capacity is 80 passengers. The bus was created by shortening the serial 12-meter buses of the NL series with preservation of all their advantages. A new technical solution was the installation of a vertical motor on its own stretcher, forming an easily removable module, attached to the load-carrying carcass of the body with four bolts. The bus uses a new rear axle-type ZF portal type, all disc brakes, rotated by 50 ° steering wheels, an electronic EBS system for diagnosing and monitoring the operation of the brake system, combined with ABS and ASR. The driver can work quietly in a fully insulated cabin. Control and monitoring of all systems is carried out using an electronic NES system that outputs all information to mini-monitors and is integrated with a single electronic control processor for bus units. It also includes the CAN "body electronics" system, which monitors the operation of doors, lighting, alarms, heating, etc.

Series NL

In the late 1990s, MAN created an updated, unified system of low-profile, two-axle city buses NL263, NL313 and NL363 12 meters long, equipped with new more economical and environmentally friendly diesel engines of 260, 310 and 360 liters. from. and an automatic three-speed gearbox, the service interval of which reached 60,000 km. Given these advantages, the base model NL263 received the title "Bus 1999".

NU / NG Series

Based on the NL series, a family of intercity buses under the NU index was developed, the length of which was brought to 13.7 m. In 2000, a third range appeared, including single city 3-door low-frame models NL263-15, NL313-15 and NL363-15 (6x2 ) length of 15 m. Their 2-door variants NU313 and NU363 were designed for intercity routes. With about 50 seats, they can simultaneously carry up to 125 passengers, that is, as much as the articulated 18-meter machines. These buses are equipped with power steering power steering and a rear axle drive mechanism with electronic control, all disc brakes with EBS, ABS and ASR systems. They are based on the co-produced NG313 and NG363 buses. Most of these buses have become mobile laboratories to test the possibility of using new promising fuels and drive systems. Among them are the NM152E bus, the NL202DE diesel-electric bus, the NL232 for compressed natural gas (CNG), and articulated buses powered by fuel cells or hydrogen fuel.
